Synonymy Berkeley & Berkeley (1950) synonymised Protocapitella simplex into Branchiomaldane vincentii Langerhans in Arenicolidae. [they used the spelling 'vincenti' which is wrong]. Later Fournier & Barrie (1987) re-validated the species as Branchiomaldane simplex. The record by Harmelin (1964) for the Mediterranean needs re-evaluation as he was unaware the Canadian species was an arenicolid. [details]
