Type locality Port Jackson, New South Wales, Australia. Unspecified further. Haswell (1885) states "This species is to be found in great abundance adhering to the stems and fronds of certain sea-weeds at a depth of 10 or 12 fathoms in Port Jackson. I have also found it, though very rarely, adhering to the under surface of large blocks of stone a little below low-water mark." [details]
