Description The name Gattiola cincinnata was first published without a description but associated instead with a drawing of the species by Verrill (1874: plate 2 fig. 1). According to Article 12.2.7 of the ICZN, referring to names published before 1931, a name can be considered available if, besides satisfying the requirements of Article 11, it is associated with an illustration of the taxon being named. For this reason the name Gattiola cincinnata is valid, in spite of not being accompanied by a full description of the species. [details]

Etymology The specific epithet cincinnata is the feminine gender of the Latin word for 'curly', referring to the long and coiled appendices of the worm (antennae, tentacular, dorsal and pygidial cirri). [details]
Habitat Muddy bottoms and hard botoms with some spots of mud. [details]
