Description Lamarck's condensation of Savigny's unpublished description was published first and later Savigny published a longer, but still inadequate, description.

Lamarck (1818:316) Original publication: “H. proboscide conicé ; mamillarum setis apice nudis subtruncatis. Hesione festiva Sav.Mss.
[A species from the Mediterranean coast, discovered at Nice by M. Risso; reported by M. Cuvier. Very similar to the previous one, although smaller. Same number of segments and feet. Conical rather than cylindrical proboscis. The body has very little luster, and its rings are somewhat elongated. I did not see the ray florets, which were all retracted inwards. A second, very slender aciculum. The setae, without movable blades, appeared accidentally truncated at the tip.]

Fauvel tentatively placed H. festiva under Hesione pantherina (Risso), but, while it's possible they are actually objective synonyms (being the same specimen in the Paris museum), Lamarck's publication is earlier and H. festiva cannot be a synonym of H. pantherina. The reverse is true.
