Editor's comment Strictly this record of Pratt's tentatively using an established prior name of Lo Bianco, does not qualify for inclusion as a taxon name in WoRMS. However, it is retained as it appears in the Hartman catalogue (1959: 536) as if a species named by Pratt [details]Homonymy Pratt did not name this species. According to Knight-Jones & Perkins 1998, the specimens are probably lost. [details] Synonymy The Hartman catalogue (p.536) refers "mariae E. Pratt, 1901" to Bispira volutacornis. Hartman must have been aware Pratt was not erecting a new name as Pratt gives the identification as 'mariae' a question mark, stating "appears to be very like the Mediterranean B. mariae", and in her bipolar article stating "It is not certain that this form is identical with the Mediterranean form. New to Falkland Islands." Thus it is unknown why Hartman gave Pratt's usage a listing as if a new name. She also referred B. mariae Lo Bianco to B. volutacornis. [details] |
