Nomenclature McIntosh (1885) described Ereutho kerguelensis (now in Polycirrus) and then Polycirrus kerguelensis on adjacent pages of the Challenger report. As Ereutho kerguelensis when moved to Polycirrus is a secondary homonym to Polycirrus kerguelensis McIntosh, 1885, Glasby & Hutchings (2014:68) acted as first revisers (art.24.2) (for the pre-existing homonymy) and made the former senior to the latter, although making the existing Polycirrus kerguelensis basionym senior to the new combination P. kerguelensis would have been possible and perhaps preferable. They did this on page priority but selection is not restricted as there is no page priority in such cases in the ICZN rules. [details]
