Etymology The specific epithet franciscana refers to the unusual pattern of ciliation of the branchial filaments, encircling a bald tip and resembling the tonsure of many monks, including the ones belonging to the Order of Ecumenical Franciscans. [details]
Habitat Sand, coral rubble, sponges and among Halophila seagrasses, at shallow depths. [details]
Type locality Southwest Pacific, Australia, Queensland, Great Barrier Reef, Lizard Island, north of North Point (14º38'36''S, 145º27'09''E). [details]
