Description Club-shaped lobe growing erect from substrate, up to 10 cm wide and high, with rounded apex. Surface covered in closely spaced, short, blunt conules, with star-shaped ridges joining adjacent conules. Oscules apical, 3-4 mm wide. Body brittle; internal fibres packed with sandgrains. Colour brown black; conule tips paler due to incorporated sand-grains; interior light brown. Habitat: lagoons and fringing reefs. Distribution: Indo Pacific. Similar to Spongia ceylonensis (Richmond, 1997). [details]
