Nomenclature The original name of the order named by Bergquist (1978) was Verongida. Morrow & Cardenas (2015) adapted the name to Verongiida in line with ordinal names for other orders of Porifera based on a genus name ending in the suffix -ia. Because order names are not governed by the ICZN the original name are allowed to be adapted. We follow the proposed adapation from Verongida (based on genus name Verongia) to Verongiida. [details]
