From editor or global species database
Nomenclature note Von Lendenfeld (1887: 790) in a remarkable statement erected this 'genus' to replace (?) Cavochalina Carter, 1885 with Cavochalina bilamellata (Lamarck, 1814 as Spongia) as the type species. Although he mentioned Carter's species explicitly as the first of the species, he did not indicate it as the type species, but De Laubenfels (1936: 59) subsequently proposed Cavochalina bilamellata as the type species of Placochalina. Cavochalina bilamellata sensu Carter, 1885: 287 was the only species described under the new genus name in Carter's 1885 paper, so this became the type species of Cavochalina by monotypy. De Laubenfels' (1936) indication of Carter's species as the type species of Placochalina thus caused that name to become an objective junior synonym of Cavochalina Carter as both genera shared the same type species. Curiously, Von Lendenfeld (1889: 127) spelled the name of his genus as Plakochalina without explanation. [details]
