Spelling The spelling of the name of this genus by Lieberkühn was altered from Lamarck's original spelling Tethya, and moreover the genus name is also preoccupied by Tethyum Bohadsch, 1761 (Tunicata). The fact that this name was suppressed in favour of Halocynthia Verrill, 1879 still disallows the use of Lieberkühn's name. Regardless, Lieberkühn's spelling as Tethyum is an unjustified emendation of Lamarck's Tethya. [details]
