AB  - A new species of Porifera, <i>Didiscus spinoxeatus</i> (Ustica Island, Tyrrhenian Sea), is here described. The analysis of the spicular characters shows a close affinity of the new species with the Mediterranean <i>D. styliferus</i> Tsurnamal. Moreover, <i>D. spinoxeatus</i> shares some characters of its microscleres with <i>D. verdensis</i> Hiemstra & van Soest, recorded from Cape Verde Islands. The homogeneity of this Atlantic-Mediterranean group is discussed on the basis of the morphology of species-specific didiscorhabds.
