Homonymy This is a junior secondary homonym of Spongia fistulosa Linnaeus, 1759. The name was apparently a 'mistake' and was later (Linnaeus, 1767) given the name Spongia fistularis when proposed by Pallas (1766) citing Linnaeus' fistulosa as a synonym, while both citing figures of Sloane (1707) of what is now understood as Aplysina fistularis. Since Linnaeus' and Von Lendenfeld's names are secondary homonyms and do not currently are assigned to the same genus, the homonymy is removed (see also Van Soest, 2024: 28).
