Status Burton (1931) assigned this species to Alcyonium junceum Lamarck, 1815 from Madagascar based on his claim that he compared it to a 'portion of Lamarck's type' in the collection of the Natural History Museum. Lamarck's type has not been found by Topsent (1933) who revised the Lamarck collection. Burton did not provide a description of the fragment in the Natural History Museum, reason for Hooper (1996) to doubt the assignment to Lamarck's species. Until there is clarity over the type status of the Natural History Museum fragment, Clathria juncea is assigned to the authorship of Burton, with Natal as its type locality. [details]
