Description Encrusting sponge, irregularly lobate, 5-10 cm long, 5 cm thick. Surface raised into faintly conulose irregular lumps. Oscules 1-2 mm wide and irregularly spaced. Body tough, brittle and incompressible, emitting copious stringy, magenta-coloured mucus. Colour deep purplish-black. Habitat: inshore fringing reefs.
