Synonymy Tabachnick et al. (2008) suggested that this species is a junior synonym of Hyalonema (Hyalonema) proximum Schulze, 1904, but the citation of specimen numbers of the Siboga Expedition by these authors appears to be mixed up with specimens from the Valdivia Expedition. It is prudent to await correction before we follow the synonymy.
