Taxonomic remark Japanese reports (Tanita, 1967, followed by Hoshino, 1981) of this species, as Callyspongia variabilis, are likely not conspecific with Dendy's material. For the time being it is kept under the combination Callyspongia variabilis sensu Tanita, 1967, but ultimately will have to be reassigned. [details]
