Taxonomy Haliphysema Bowerbank, 1862 with type species H. tumanowiczii Bowerbank, 1862 has been shown to be a foraminiferan. However, Bowerbank, 1873 used the genus for a sponge, H. tubulatum. The genus name Haliphysema for the sponge was replaced by Norman, 1878 (footnote p. 267) by Aulospongus. The name Haliphysema is also a misspeling for Halyphysema. [details]
