Remark Ampelisca antarctica was originally confused with A. macrocephala from the North Atlantic region, but G. Karaman (1975) disproves that idea. Ampelisca antarctica is considered to be a Southern Ocean endemic. The only possibility that is occurs outside of the Southern Ocean is the record attributed to Stebbing 1914 from the Falkland Islands by G. Karaman, 1975. [details]
