Taxonomy Nicon polaris was regarded as doubtfully in Nicon by Pettibone (1971), and de León-González & Trovant (2013) seem to agree as they state "Nicon polaris was described based on an epitoke; however, the possession of an expanded elytra-shaped dorsal cirrus in the chaetiger 7 makes it doubtful that it belongs to Nicon; a similar structure is found in Kainonereis ...". Nevertheless they tabulate its characters and include it in their Nicon key. Subsequently Conde-Vela et al (2018) transferred it to Kainonereis and redescribed it. [details]
