Comparison Similar to Pachysolenia in phaceloid corallum, radial symmetry and tabular endotheca, but differing from it in the type of budding - pocket-budding in Quenstedtiphyllia while lateral in Pachysolenia, and in the microstructure of septa and wall. In Pachysolenia septa ddo not show show separated centers and the wall is built of modules centered along subhorizontal axes; in Quenstedtiphyllia the centers in septa are discernible, and modules are centered on the wall. Diagnosis Phaceloid amphiastreid with one-zonal (tabular) endotheca. Septal apparatus in quasi-radial symmetry. Increase by pocket-budding. [details]
Remark The features of the genus were discussed in Roniewicz and Stolarski 2001, and phylogeny of the family Amphiastraeidae outlined. Two species are known. [details]
Status Melnikova created a new generic name Quenstedtiphyllia for Hexastraea fritshi Volz; genus Hexastraea Volz,1896 is a junior homonym of Hexastraea Bellardi in Sismonda 1871. [details]
