Etymology The generic name is masculine, of which the prefix “Gracili-” is derived from a Latin word “gracilis” meaning thin, slim or slender, which refers to the thin cuticle as well as the slender body of the genus. The suffix ‘-deres’ is derived from the Ancient Greek meaning neck, which is often used in generic names of Kinorhyncha. [details]
