From editor or global species database
Synonymy Modell (1964) introduced a new species, Margaritifera martinsoni, for the material studied by Martinson (1956), although he did not explicitly refer to a homonymy issue. Rather from his formulation it seems that he believed Martinson's record to be a misidentified recent species, but Martinson clearly attributed the authorship of the species to himself. The name is a junior objective synonym of Margaritifera baicalica Popova, 1964, a replacement name for the same homonym that appeared (very likely) a few months earlier. [details]
