Description Massive cerioid corallum with polygonal corallites. Lower surface costulate. Intracalicinal septal budding producing often three daughter corallites in a mother corallite. Radial elements compact free or anastomosed in the center generally attenuated and generally straight, confluent to non confluent. Distal edge not observed, inner edge of free septa attenuated and in zigzag in longitudinal section, lateral faces not ornamented, no pali. Microstructure with no visible trabecular axes. Hexameral symmetry present but disturbed by the mode of increase, bilateral symmetry occasionally expressed by elongation of corallite, junction of opposite septa or elongation of columella. Endotheca with very regularly spaced vesicular dissepiments at the periphery of the corallite, columella styliform to sublamellar always linked to inner edges of major septa, synapticules possibly present in the wall, septothecal wall whose the microstructure shows regular spots difficult to interpret. [details]

Status Bussonastraea is probably a junior synonym of Septastraeopsis.
