Type locality Stated in Kinberg (1856) as "Rio de Janeiro", with a more complete description being provided in Kinberg (1858, 1910) as "Mare Atlanticum long. a Greenwich occid. 40°55', lat. austr. 22°30', prope Rio Janeiro, in fundo argillæ cærulæ, arenosæ, conchis frustulentæ, 20—30 orgyiarum" [= Atlantic Ocean, -22.05°, -40.9167°, near Rio de Janeiro, in a bottom of blue clay, sand and broken shells, 20-30 fathoms (= about 35-55 m)].
