Etymology The specific epithet arboricola is composed by the Latin word arbor, meaning 'tree' and the suffix -cola, meaning 'inhabitant', and refers to the fact that most of the specimens of the new species were found associated to an old tree trunk lying on the mudflat. [details]
Habitat Intertidal mangrove mudflats, associated to hard substrates, such as old tree trunks lying on the mud, hermit crab shells, or Rhizophora root systems (salinity 25.7-27.8‰ temperature 27-28ºC). [details]
Type locality Pacific Ocean, El Salvador, Estero Jaltepeque, Herradura (geocoordinates not provided, estimated with gazetteer and accompanying map to be approximately lat. 13.3251º, long. -88.9304º). [details]
Type material The description of the species was based mainly on a specimen collected from the shell of a hermit crab, collected in an intertidal mangrove mudflat at Herradura, Estero Jaltepeque, El Salvador (Station 8 of Hartmann-Schröder, 1959). [details]
