Etymology Fauchald explains the Piromis hospitis name as follows: "A large number of commensal hydroids are present on the setae forming the cephalic cage: thus the name hospitis" However, he does not explain further. Hospitus (note the -us), -a, -um is an adjective for guest, so it could have been used to indicate the guest hydroids if Fauchald was naming the hydroids. However, that is not what is required here. Fauchald is instead indicating the hospitality of the Piromis for the hydroids, and the derivation appears to relate to the noun 'hospes' '-hospitis' referring to hospitality and hosting, and (being) an inn or inn host.. As the word is seemingly used as a noun, not an adjectival form it does not change with genus gender. There are no other 'hospitis' names in WoRMS at present, but there are a number of 'hospita' names. [details]Unreviewed
