Etymology Not stated. The specific epithet phyllobranchia is composed by the Greek combining form phyllo-, meaning 'leaf', and the Ancient Greek word branchia, meaning 'branchia', and means 'leaf-like branchiae', referring presumably to the shape of the branchiae from about chaetiger 20-25, when the notopodial lamellae are described as being ''displaced distally on enlongated stalk [...], diverging to form 2 leaf-shaped, vesiculate processes: a dorsal lamella and separate branchia'' (Blake & Kudenov, 1978: 180).
