The spirostreptid millipede genus Doratogonus was reviewed and 15 new species were described in 2000, increasing
the total number of species to 37. Material collected since 2000 has revealed three additional new species from
South Africa which are described herein. Doratogonus rattrayi is described from Nkandhla Forest in KwaZulu-Natal,
and D. microsetus and D. minimus are described from Wakkerstroom and Mariepskop, respectively, in Mpumalanga
province. All three species are known from only one site; in the case of D. rattrayi this is forest, while D. minimus
was collected from high elevation grassland, and the exact habitat of D. microsetus is uncertain. The small known
distributions of the three new species means that they can be categorised as Vulnerable to extinction according to the
IUCN Red List criteria.
