Diagnosis Test oval to spherical, 60 µm to 350 µmin length; wall membranous, smooth or lightly covered with foreign matter; aperture single, lateral or subterminal, may be a narrow slit; cytoplasm clear, yellowish, distinctly granular, with pseudopodial trunk extending through aperture to give rise to pseudopodia or to layer of cytoplasm that nearly completely envelops test; 1 to 150 spherical nuclei, many contractile vacuoles, elongate anastomosing pseudopodia with pronounced granular streaming; asexual reproduction by multiple fission.
