Status Introduced for M. costata sensu Cossmann, 1909, non Olivier, 1804. The name was corrected to "cossmanni" by Neubauer et al. (2014a: 461), which is a justified emendation according to Art. 32.5.1 and 33.2.2. Wenz (1929) considered all records of "M. costata" from the Pliocene of Slavonia to represent the same species and synonymized them with M. abbreviata cosmanni. Obviously, he was unaware that M. croatica Brusina, 1884 is the first available name for them (see also discussion of M. pseudocostata Oppenheim, 1890). A revision is required to clarify the relationships among the taxa involved. [details]
