This small individual exhibits the typical granulate carapace, strongly serrated lateral margins, and robust chelipeds armed with well-developed dentition. Coloration is reddish-brown with paler mottling. The specimen is a female showing signs of recent ovigerous activity (post-egg-carrying).
Cronius ruber is a durophagous grapsid crab native to the western Atlantic but considered invasive in the eastern Atlantic. It has expanded its range into the Canary Islands, where it occupies reef margins, rubble flats, and transitional sand–rock substrates. ·
