Taxonomic remark Schmarda (1859) and Örsted (1845) both describe a new species with the name Vortex caudatus, the former from freshwater near Popayan (Colombia), the latter from marine (and brackish?) waters near Oslo. Diesing (1862) transfers both species to the genus Turbella: Turbella caudata (Schmarda, 1859) (Diesing, 1862: p. 219) and Turbella caudata (Örsted, 1845) (Diesing, 1862: p. 223). Moreover, he consideres T. caudata (Örsted, 1845) as a species inquerenda. Graff (1882) treats both as separate species, considering Vortex caudatus Örsted, 1845 as a synonym of Provortex balticus (Graff, 1882: p. 345), while Schmarda's species is left in the genus Vortex (Graff, 1882: p. 332) but with reservation. Since Graff (1882) the species Vortex caudatus Schmarda (1859) is not mentioned anymore, and hence can be best be considered a nomen oblitum. [details]
