Additional information Specimen(s) from South Korea, Pohang, unknown if hologenophore(s) deposited in a collection: GenBank accession number for 18S rRNA: GQ229038. Data contributed by Choi, E.H. & Hwang, U.W.: Predicted secondary structure for nuclear small subunit ribosomal RNA sequence (18S) from Echinoderes lanceolatus (Kinorhyncha: Cyclorhagida), unpublished. Etymology The proposed specific name is taken from the Latin lanceolatus (spearlike), which refers to the lanceolate shape of tergal extension of this species. [details]
Identification Comparing the location and specimen data of the original description of E. lanceolatus by Chang & Song (2002) with the data given in Sørensen et al. (2020), it seems that from the original material only the holotype EWNMH-60268 and the paratype NHMD-662031 of E. lanceolatus were identified with certainty as E. aureus. It remains open which of the remaining specimens of the original material of E. lanceolatus have been available for the study by Sørensen et al (2020), and these specimens may represent either E. aureus or E. songae. Taxonomy Sørensen et al. 2012b: Echinoderes lanceolatus possibly junior synonym of Echinoderes aureus [details]
