Type species Hartman (catalogue 1959:406) designated (by using its recombination name of Cirriformia tentaculata; there appear to be no earlier designations by her) as type of Cirriformia Hartman, 1936 (her earlier replacement name for Audouinia, a homonym) the name Terebella tentaculata Montagu, 1808. However, this is not possible (ICZN 4th Edition Code article 67.8.1) as Terebella tentaculata was not included in Audouinia by Quatrefages. The type species is still unfixed but must be one of the four taxa included by Quatrefages. However, recent workers ( eg Magalhaes et al 2014) use T. tentaculata as type and appear not to have considered the possibility Hartman was incorrect in her designation. Fauvel (1927: 91) subsequently included all four of Quatrefages original Audouinia species as synonyms of Audouinia tentaculata. It is probably this placement that prompted Hartman (Catalogue) to regard Montagu's original Terebella tentaculata, now as Cirriformia tentaculata, as the type species of her Cirriformia, her replacement name for Audouinia, which is a junior homonym. However, regardless that Terebella tentaculata might be the senior (subjective) synonym to all of Quatrefages original Audouinia taxa, it cannot be the type of Audouinia or of Cirriformia. This likely has no practical consequences, but should be known [G Read January 2021) [details]
