Type locality Azores Archipelago, Atlantic Ocean. The subspecies was defined with base on specimens collected from five different stations, all located around the central group of islands of the Azores Archipelago: 1) São Jorge Channel, between Pico and São Jorge (38.575°, -28.1042°), 1287 m; 2) near the western point of São Jorge (38.775°, -28.3453°), 696 m; 3) Faial Channel, between Faial and Pico ( 38.625°, -28.1625°), 1230 m; 4) near Faial (3 miles SE), Faial Channel, between Faial and Pico (38.4444°, -28.6681°), 778 m; 5) north of São Jorge (38.7583°, -28.1292°), 1905 m. Type material Type material deposited at the Musée Océanographique de Monaco. Fauvel (1909, 1914) bases the description of Amphitritite cirrata profunda on specimens from five different stations. Belloc (1953) refers as types only the specimens from three of these stations, the ones which included the material used for the illustrations by Fauvel (1914: plate XXVII, figs. 26-32): station 112 (plate XXVII fig. 32; anterior region); station 612 (plate XXVII figs. 29-31; uncini from thoracic double row); and station 1344 (plate XXVII figs. 26-28; uncini from thoracic double rows). The whereabouts of the others specimens is not referred, but presumably they are also deposited at the Musée Océanographique de Monaco. [details]
