Etymology Unstated. Southward has no comment on the formation of the name 'minor', but the tube diameter of Sclerolinum minor is thinner than that of S. major, described in the same work. Both are thin. The Latin adjectives 'minor' and 'major' are comparative forms, apparently invariant with gender of the genus. Minor was very commonly used as a variety name compared with the nominal entity before varieties became subspecies in the 1960s [details]
