Diagnosis Original diagnosis by Banse (1977: 125): "Notophycinae with parapodia each [except first two] having one notocirrus and one neurocirrus. These notopodia each also with a lower cirrus, and these neuropodia with an upper cirrus." [details]
Etymology "The name refers to the principal diagnostic character and is of feminine gender" (Banse, 1977: 125). The name of the genus is composed by the Latin prefix quadri-, derived from the Latin numeral quattuor and meaning 'four', and cirra, form of the Latin noun cirrus and meaning 'curl' or 'filament', and makes reference to the 4 cirri per parapodia referred in the diagnosis of the genus. Synonymy According to Paxton (1983) "The genus Quadricirra Banse, 1977 is not recognized, since its principal diagnostic character, the presence of accessory parapodial cirri, is sexually dimorphic and cannot be correlated with other characters." [details]
