Distribution Northwestern, northern and eastern coasts of Australia, and southern Papua New Guinea. [details]
Etymology The species is named after the author's colleague and friend Philip Alderslade (Curator of Cnidarians, NTM), who collected the first specimens and helped with octocoral identification. [details]
Habitat On alcyonacean corals. Darwin (northern Australia) material was found on an undescribed genus and species of Nephtheidae. Papua New Guinea material was on a specimen of Dendronephthya (Nephtheidae). Western Australia material was on both nephtheids and a gorgonian (Melithaea sp.). New South Wales material was on a different species of Melithaea. [details]
