Depth range 1-4 fathoms (1.8-7.3 m). [details]
Distribution Indian Ocean: Tambalagam Bay (Sri Lanka). Known only from the type locality. [details]
Etymology Not stated. The specific epithet brevicristata is composed by the Latin prefix brevi-, meaning 'short', and the Latin adjective cristata, feminine of cristatum and meaning 'crested' or having a 'crest'. It seems to make reference to the length of the "medial dorsal crest" (= nuchal organs) of the species, described as not extending beyond the 7th or 8th chaetiger, being this way shorter than the one present in Laonice cirrata (M. Sars, 1851). [details]
Habitat Brackish water (11.0-19.0 p.p.t.) at shallow depths (1-4 fathoms; 1.8-7.3 m), in fine black mud in oyster beds. [details]
Type locality Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka, Tambalagam Bay (= Tambalagam Lake), centre of the lake (geocoordinates not provided, estimated with gazetteer to be approximately lat. 8.52º, long. 81.16º). [details]
