Taxonomy San Martín & Hutchings (2006) synonymized Pharyngeovalvata Day, 1951 with Odontosyllis Claparède, 1868, after examining one paratype of Pharyngeovalvata natalensis Day, 1951 (NHM 1961.16.16-17), type species of the genus, and considering it to be identical with Odontosyllis ctenostoma Claparède, 1868.
