Etymology Not stated. The specific epithet membranacea (masculine: membranaceus) is a Latin adjective meaning 'membranaceous' or 'resembling a membrane', and presumably refers to the presence of a dorsal membranous crest on chaetiger 7: ''notopodial lamellae on setiger 7 connected by high membranous dorsal crest [...]; setiger 8 and subsequent setigers without dorsal ridge'' (Imajima, 1990: 130).
