Etymology Not stated. However, Eusigalion vazensis is clearly named for the geographic location of Fernan Vaz on the coast of Gabon. The lagoon is likely (without certainty) named for the 16thC Portuguese cartographer Fernão Vaz Dourado, who produced a 1571 West Africa nautical chart. [details]
