From editor or global species database
Editor's comment The group of taxa brought together by ten Hove (1970) under the subspecific name Spirobranchus giganteus corniculatus in the meantime is thought to be a complex of species in itself: Spirobranchus corniculatus-complex, see Fiege & ten Hove (1999 fig.4) for a graphic overview. Sp. corniculatus sensu stricto is one representative of this complex. There is a lot of confusion in the existing identifications of circumtropical "Sp. giganteus", but the use of the latter binomen should be restricted to the specimens from the Caribbean. [details]
Editor's comment Cymospira incompleta, also catalogued as Spirobranchus incompleta, is indeterminable, but might fall in this complex of species [details]
Synonymy S. giganteus tricornis non Mörch, sensu Fauvel (1930, 1947) most probably should be attributed to S. corniculatus s.str. [details]
