Distribution Puerto Deseado (Argentina) to Beagle Channel and South Georgia. The species was also reported from the Australia-New Zealand-Kerguelen region (Hubendick, 1946; Dell, 1964; Powell, 1979). Some of these records were subsequently reassigned to S. innominata (Iredale, 1915), S. stewartiana (Powell, 1939) and S. macquariensis (Powell, 1939). The occurrence of S. lateralis outside South America requires confirmation. [details]
