The WoRCS initiative was presented to the 22nd International Congress of Zoology in Onna Village, Okinawa, Japan (15-19 November 2016)
The 22nd International Congress of Zoology gathered more than 800 researchers from over 20 countries in Okinawa, Japan. The program included more than 200 oral and +500 poster presentations, which covered the most important research lines on Zoology, ranging from Biochemistry to Macroecology. Presentations were organized in different sessions covering specific topics in Evo-Devo, Gene Expression, Neurobiology, Evolution, Phylogenetics, Diversity, etc.

The WoRCS initiative was presented by Alejandro Martínez within his invited talk entitled “What can we learn from evolution and macroecology by studying neglected groups inhabiting cryptic submarine labyrinths? A case study with Annelida”, co-authored by Brett C. Gonzalez, Katrine Worsaae (University of Copenhagen) and Diego Fontaneto (ISE-CNR). The talk briefly presented some new results on evolution of cave Annelids and its implications in the understanding of general evolutionary processes in subaquatic caves. WoRCS was presented as a valuable source of occurrence and ecological data for general macroecological analyses of patterns of diversity and its correlates.

The talk was part of the symposium “Delving into overlooked Zoology”, organized by Dr. Yuzo Ota (San'in Kaigan Geopark Museum of the Earth and Sea), Dr. Mark J. Grygier (Lake Biwa Museum) and Dr. Masanori Okanishi (Ibaraki University), and was attended by an audience of around 50 people.
