Type designation The Placobdella type species is claimed to be Placobdella costata (originally Clepsine costata Müller, 1874) since at least Soós (1969), but that species is not included in the species names included in the original description of Placobdella by Blanchard and thus the ICZN code does not allow it to be the type species of Placobdella.
