Taxonomy Dillwyn (1817:584) addressed this species as Buccinum dolium Variety B (= Buccinum dolium var. B of Solander i.e. Lightfoot (1786)), as such distinguishing it from Buccinum dolium Variety A, which is currently accepted as Tonna dolium (Linnaeus, 1758). (fide Vos, 2007 (42)) [details]
