Plumage: pale tawny buff with darker streaks; facial disc pale buff with darker border; dusky around eyes; very short eartufts in centre of forehead; dark carpal patch on underside of wing seen in flight. Immature attains adult plumage within first month after leaving nest. Bare parts: iris lemon-yellow; bill blue-black; feet grey. Habitat: seen over sea in EA, perhaps from ship. Prefers open habitats. Palearctic migrant to Red Sea, rare winter visitor to EA. <390><391><393> [details]
