Status The unique holotype male (about 5 mm) of Brachyscelus bovallii is in the NHM, London (89.5.15.305), on one microscope slide. The type locality is the South Pacific, Challenger, surface, October 1875. The description and figures provided by Stebbing are inadequate for a specific determination. The gnathopods have serrations similar to B. globiceps but the basis of P6 is more like that of B. rapacoides. An examination of the type, a poorly preserved
specimen, has not helped to resolve the specific determination, and the second antennae are incomplete so it was not possible to compare it to B. rapacoides. Thus, this species should be considered a nomen dubium. Vinogradov et al. (1982, 1996) list it as a synonym of B. globiceps. [details]
